Results

The last two weeks have provided an exciting start for the season for City High. Here are the highlights.

Jackson Community College (October. 6)

Four students went to the first meet of the season: Riet Groenleer, Catherine Khuu, Christina Le, and Nathan Ritsema. They joined with students from Kalamazoo Central and Portage Central for two sessions of vigorous debate. Nearly everyone in the room spoke, and spoke often!

At the end, City students did very well, taking home three trophies:

• 1st Chrstina Le
• 4th Riet Groenleer
• 6th Nate Ritsema

What a terrific way to kick off the year.

Mona Shores, October 13

This is the same meet where it all started last year. Saturday, we took six students, three veterans (Oana Damacus, Catherine Khuu, and Christina Le) and three novices (Esther Creswell, Abe Rinck, and Emily Riippa). This is a great tournament for newbies -- it was the first time for everyone else. But like JCC the week before, everyone committed and spoke up.

The highlight of City High performance was having Oana serve as Presiding Officer for the first session. Sure, it was a little scary, but she handled it solidly. Christina was the Presiding Officer for the second session. At Awards, City students did very well, receiving five of the ten medals:

• 2nd Oana Damacus
• 5th Catherine Khuu
• 6th Abe Rinck
• 10th Emily Riippa
